Staffordshire University graduate Amit Shah has recently landed a starring role in a big budget thriller.

Actor, Amit Kaushik Shah of the North-East Area who lives in Southgate with his parents Kaushik Meghji-Hirji and Shardaben Kaushik and his sister Seema has just landed his first film role in a big-budget thriller. ‘LIKE MINDS’

Amit, 23, is working on his first film role in ‘Like Minds’ directed and written by Gregory J. Read. The film stars Toni Collette, from About a Boy, Muriel’s Wedding and The Sixth Sense.

Amit said: “To win this film role is really fantastic. We fly out to Adelaide in early January, and start filming soon after. “Working on a big budget film will be a great experience for me as most of my work so far has been in theatre.”

The film is set in a boarding school and is centred on three friends,

one of whom is played by Amit. “My character in the film was originally written as a 17 year old Chinese student, but because I am of Indian origin the director is planning to change the character name, which I have been able to choose.”

The film takes a dark turn as one of the friend’s commits murder. The films exterior shots are set in Australia and filming will continue in Leeds on the crews return.

Amit graduated from Staffordshire University with a BA (Hons) Drama and Theatre Arts degree, and after this proceeded to graduate from The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) in June 2003.

During this time, Amit was rehearsing the part of Salim in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Bombay Dreams. At the end of his year long contract he went on to perform in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night - with a twist.

The director set the play in India, and this was performed in the Albery Theatre in the West End for ten weeks. Amit starred alongside Kulvinder Ghir, from the television series Goodness Gracious Me, Neha Dubey from Monsoon Wedding and Raza Jaffrey, from BBC One’s Spooks.
